The Battle of St Monans in Fife acquired new status when it was added to Scotland's National Record for the Historic Environment. The entry can be seen on the Canmore site, which credits Leonard Low's groundbreaking book, The Battle of St Monans.

A new walking trail commemorating writer George Mackay Brown a century after his birth was launched in Stromness. The locations on the trail feature in George Mackay Brown's books Letters from Hamnavoe, Under Brinkie's Brae, Rockpools and Daffodils and The First Wash of Spring.
